An independent laboratory test confirms: IQAir’s HyperHEPA technology offers the best separation efficiency

The recognised test laboratory Interbasic Resources Inc. has bought a number of air purifiers on the open market and tested their filtration efficiency. Only the IQAir HealthPro 250 was actually able to filter more than 99 % of all dirt particles. Since the HealthPro 150 is equipped with the identical particle filters that the HealthPro 250 has, the same result can be expected for this IQAir model too.

The four air purifiers tested are among the best-placed air purifiers in their respective air purification technology classes:

  • IQAir HealthPro 250
  • Synthetic HEPA air purifier
  • Air purifier with fan motor
  • Electronic air purifier without fan

The three diagrams above and below show the results of the independent tests of the laboratory Interbasic Resources, Inc., Michigan, USA. All the air purifiers were tested as new models while running at the highest fan stage.

The main advantages of a high efficiency air purifier

Although high efficiency is not the only performance feature of an air purifier, it is nevertheless one of the most important properties. Because a highly efficient air purifier guarantees:

  1. Users in the vicinity of the air purifier breathe the cleanest possible air.
  2. Less air circulation (air throughput) is required in order to clean the room air.
As a result, the air purifier can run at a lower fan speed than less efficient air purifiers, meaning that less noise and draughts are generated.
  3. Suspended matter filtered out of the air remains in the filter and is
not exhausted back into the room air.

HyperHEPA efficiency does not decrease – on the contrary:
it increases with the length of treatment

HyperHEPA efficiency

The tests above refer to factory new air purifying models.

Further tests have shown that the efficiency of all the air purifiers with the exception of the IQAir sytems decreases drastically proportionally to the extent that they are used. As time progresses, all the other air purifiers filter fewer and fewer pollutant particles and even discharge them back into the room after a certain time. Electrostatic air purifiers have to be cleaned permanently to compensate for such reductions in efficiency.

The efficiency of the IQAir air purifiers does not decrease even when the filters are not replaced*. Filtered particles are never discharged back into the air. This is one of the reasons why IQAir systems with HyperHEPA technology are used in critical clinical environments to prevent infection.

* Filters are not changed to increase filter efficiency,
but to increase the air flow rate.
